TECHNOLOGY STREAM AT St Johns

St. John’s College has a history of 191 years of providing quality education for the children in Jaffna. Due to its fame and recognition, students from other districts of the country have also followed their academic career at St. John’s. However, the greater numbers of beneficiaries are/were from the Northern Province with a majority from the Jaffna District. Although the school was started by Christian missionaries, the college has never discriminated students belonging to other religions - the College has embraced with open arms students from all cast and creed.

Navatkuli, Colombuthurai, Ariyalai, Chundikuli, Jaffna Town and part of Nallur. Unfortunately none of the seven selected schools are in close proximity to the places mentioned. Unless St. John's rises to the occasion, students from these areas as well as the 16 students from St. John's who are presently following the course, the 48 students who wish to enroll next year and the countless more who might wish to follow this new and promising stream in the years to come will be deprived of their fundamental right to education.

St. John's cannot stand by, watching the future of a generation of children turn bleak! Help St. John's to put up the laboratories and equipment needed to train the students; help us help them...

There is a separate entity just opposite to St. John's by the name of 'Jaffna Academy & School of Technology ‘ which conducts extra courses for boys and girls from St. John's College and other schools. It has a history of providing O/L and A/L classes, language training, pre –school teacher training and several other vocational training.
It is proposed that this facility (a laboratory with machinery and equipment in conformity to government specifications) shall be established at St John’s College for the benefit of the students in the Jaffna District who wish to avail themselves of this new field of study and the expertise and relevant resources of Jaffna Academy will also be pulled in to complement the efforts of St John’s College.
